On July 7th, guests from all Canadian provinces as well as 8 countries relished in the sunshine, Western hospitality and quality of cattle at the 2011 RockyMountain High Sale. Sale average on the 111 lots was an impressive $12,006 with embryo lots averaging $ 1,465. The host herd continues to excel on the type, bloodline and genomics front, with numerous high selling consignments donning the RockyMountain prefix.
Topping the sale was Lot 22, Rainyridge Super Beth, from the famous Rainyridge Talent Barbara. This red carrier heifer sold for $79,000 to Cormdale Genetics of Ontario, Diamond Genetics and Arjan van der Vlis of the Netherlands, Drakkar Holsteins of France and Anderstrup Holsteins of Denmark. Second high seller was Lot 12, Benner Planet Bessie, the #5 GLPI heifer and #1 Planet daughter in Canada. This chart topper sold to Canadian Agricultural Logistics of Ontario for $71,000.
Third high was a pick of 10 pregnancies by Snowman from Smithden Bolton Alexandria selling for $70,000 to RockyMountain Holsteins. Next highest was Blackforest Starfire Lianne RDC, daughter of the famous RockyMountain Talent Licorice, who sold for $61,000 to the Lianne Syndicate, c/o Tom DeGroot, Chilliwack, BC.
Also selling for over $40,000 was Fleury Gen Baxter Lisa to Sylvanside Dairies of Alberta for $54,000 and her daughters, RockyMountain Super Leita for $54,000 to RockyMountain Holsteins, and RockyMountain Super Lexus to Gen-Com, PQ, for $50,000. Cederwal Man O Man Esteem ($47,000 to Stanton Bros, ON) and Misty Springs MB Brighter Red ($41,000 to EY Morwick, ON) also joined this illustrious group.
Other Highlights:
- The sale gross of $1,385,500 and the average of the animal lots of $12,006 are the highest figures of the four RockyMountain High sales held to date.
- 14 lots sold for over $30,000. Compared to 2009 - 7, 2007 - 6 and 2005 - 4.
- The lots were sold to a wide geographical area with especially strong support from Alberta breeders.
